June 10, 2022 - South Jersey Marsh

A beautiful flying day at Essex Skypark.  I worked on my plane for an hour or two, then went flying.

Today's funfly destination was the South Jersey marshes.

Here, I have crossed the Chesapeake Bay and am heading across the Eastern Shore.

Looking down at Full Throttle Farm Airport in Delaware, a private runway.  You don't see that many private paved runways.  Must be nice.

Flying past Blackbeard Creek which empties into the Delware River, at the top of the image.

More Blackbeard Creek.

Looking south down the east coast of the Eastern Shore.  As you can see, there is marsh here too, but not nearly as much as over in south Jersey.

A ship cruises up the Delaware River, probably to Wilmington or Philadelphia.  I'm not sure what ship type it is.  I'm guessing liquified natural gas (LNG)?

OK, now I'm over in south Jersey, heading south over the beautiful marshes.

In spring, the Marshes are like velvet.

Looking east as one of the creeks meanders through the marsh.

I'm not flying a straight line; I'm weaving back and forth, happier than a seagull with a french fry.

A little beach action on the Delaware Bay.

Approaching the entrance to the Cohansey River.

The Conhansey River "generally" heads east.

Whoops!  One houseboat didn't make it.

The Cohansey River heads for the town of Bridgeton.  But I turn away at this point and resume my general course southeast.

Passing a very nice waterfront estate with a fancy boathouse.

An abandoned shack out in the marsh;  accessible only by boat.

Approaching a little Delaware Bay community called Gandys Beach.

Southern end of Gandys Beach.

Passing by Fortescue Beach.

Continuing southeast.

That structure down there had at least one bald eagle on it and maybe more.

Approaching the entrance to the Maurice River which runs north up to Millville.

A better look at the Maurice River.

I followed the Maurice River up to a little town called Mauricetown, of course.

The Mauricetown United Methodist Church really stands out.

Just a mile or so west of Mauriceville is the giant Haleyville cemetery.

Back to the marsh!

Heading back the way I had come.

Pretty.

Stands of trees grow on islands of firm land in the marsh.

I cross the Delaware River and then the Eastern Shore.  I pass by this new development going up on the Eastern Shore.

Then I pass a new solar farm.
